Although convicted of 15 murders, and suspected of at least 215 more, Dr. Harold Shipman saved the life of his prison cellmate Tony Fleming.

Fleming had been living in such fear of Shipman killing him in their cell that he decided to take his own life by hanging. Shipman caught him, cut him down, and resuscitated him.

Fleming and Shipman remained friends until Shipman’s own suicide in 2004, and he even confessed to Fleming that, “I feel responsible for 58 of my patients deaths.” Although never admitted to murdering them, this is the closest he has ever come to admitting his guilt.
